The use of various services, such as software development platforms, servers, storage, and software, over the Internet, often referred to as the “cloud.” Cloud computing enables companies to consume a computer resource, such as a virtual machine (VM), storage or an application, as a utility (just like electricity) rather than having to build and maintain computing infrastructures in house.

Glossary: Infrastructure as a Service [IaaS]
A form of cloud computing that provides virtualized computing resources over the internet. In an IaaS model, a cloud provider hosts the infrastructure components traditionally present in an on-premises data center, including servers, storage and networking hardware, as well as the virtualization or hypervisor layer.

Microsoft’s cloud computing platform that offers a range of services and tools for building, deploying, and managing applications and services in the cloud.
Glossary: On-Demand Software
A type of software delivery model that is deployed and managed on a vendor’s cloud computing infrastructure and accessed by users over the Internet as and when required.
Glossary: Platform as a Service [PaaS]
A cloud computing model in which a third-party provider delivers hardware and software tools, usually those needed for application development, to users over the internet. A PaaS provider hosts the hardware and software on its own infrastructure.
